In an article published on WebMD, the
Center for the Biology of Chronic Disease (CBCD) learned that cancer patients
have a higher risk of getting severe flu complications due to their
weakened immune system.
Thus, the CDC recommends that cancer
patients receive a flu vaccination. (In fact, the CDC recommends that,
"everyone 6 months of age and older get a flu vaccine.")
The article on WebMD went on to note that
if your immune system is compromised, "Getting a flu shot is better than not
getting a flu shot, although it might not work as well as in a healthy person.
If you do contract the flu after getting immunized, chances are you won't get
as sick as someone who hadn't received a flu shot."
From the standpoint of the CBCD, all of
this information highlights the need for a healthy, strong immune system. This
is particularly true in the case of cancer patients who already have suppressed
immune systems due to chemotherapy and other cancer treatments.
In fact, the CBCD stresses that the immune
system is key in the body's defense against many different chronic diseases,
including various cancers.
According to the WebMD website:
"If you're among the 1.5 million people in
the United States diagnosed with cancer each year, you may be considering
taking vitamins and supplements for cancer. Supplements, herbs, and extracts
are increasingly used in integrative medicine to:
Help strengthen the immune system
Help ease side effects of chemotherapy and
In simple terms, medical experts today
highly recommend taking supplements to help patients fight cancer.
One supplement that the CBCD
recommends is Gene-Eden-VIR, an all natural, scientific, oral supplement that
targets latent viruses.
